Suggestion for Instant POSB Account Opening at Branch Post Offices through e-KYC and Biometric/Face Authentication

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to submit a suggestion regarding improving customer convenience and service speed at Branch Post Offices.

At present, Branch Post Offices are increasingly becoming digital service points through initiatives such as APT 2.0, Dak Mitra and e-KYC. As the Department is moving towards digital and paperless services, POSB account opening at BO level may also be made as simple, quick and customer-friendly as possible.

If a customer approaches a Branch Post Office to open a POSB account, it would be highly beneficial if the complete account-opening process could be completed at the BO itself through e-KYC and secure biometric or face authentication, wherever technically, legally and operationally feasible.

A possible workflow could be:
Customer visits BO → e-KYC → Biometric/Face Authentication → Digital Account Opening → Initial Deposit → Digital Confirmation/Receipt

This would significantly reduce the need for the customer to visit the Sub Post Office merely for account opening formalities.

Such a facility would provide several benefits:
Faster account opening
Better customer experience and satisfaction
Reduced waiting time and repeated visits
Greater accessibility to POSB services in rural areas
Reduced dependence on physical paperwork
Better utilisation of existing digital infrastructure
More genuine business opportunities for India Post
It could also help the Department attract the younger generation, who increasingly expect banking services to be quick, digital and convenient.
The objective should not simply be to increase the number of accounts opened. The objective should be to make the process so convenient that customers genuinely prefer India Post for their savings needs.
If required, this facility may initially be introduced as a pilot in selected Branch Offices, evaluated for security, operational feasibility and customer experience, and then progressively extended to other BOs.
A customer should not have to travel from a Branch Post Office to a Sub Post Office merely to complete a process that can be securely authenticated and completed digitally at the BO itself.
In my humble view, enabling secure, instant and customer-friendly POSB account opening at BO level would be an important step towards making the Branch Post Office a truly Digital, Accessible and Customer-Centric Service Centre.
