Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB)
The 13th series of Sovereign Gold Bonds, issued on 26 December 2017 at a price of ₹2,866 per gram, is now yielding ₹13,563 per gram. This represents a 381.64% return excluding interest. Including the 2.5% annual interest, the total return comes to 401.64%.
The 11th series, issued on 11 December 2017 at ₹2,952 per gram, had a final value of ₹12,801 per gram, giving a 333% return excluding interest.
The tenure of Sovereign Gold Bonds issued by the Reserve Bank of India is eight years. On maturity, individual investors are exempt from capital gains tax on the returns.
Due to the sharp rise in gold prices, no Sovereign Gold Bonds have been issued since February 2024.
