Scan a Parcel in 30 Seconds: How Scanvery Is Saving Time for Post Office Staff

Say a business customer walks in with 80 parcels to book. Every one of them needs the receiver's name, full address, PIN code and mobile number entered into the system. At 3–4 minutes a parcel, that's most of the day gone, and the counter queue keeps growing while you work through the pile.

Post office staff know this routine well. Much of the day goes into reading an address off a parcel and typing it into a computer. It's slow and tiring, and one wrong digit in a PIN code can send a parcel to the wrong place.

We built Scanvery to take this typing off your hands.

What does Scanvery do?

Scanvery is an Android app that reads the receiver's details from a parcel using your phone camera. Point the phone at the address, and the app captures the name, address, PIN code and mobile number for you. Check it once, save it, and move on to the next parcel.

A parcel that usually takes 3–4 minutes to enter by hand takes around 30 seconds with Scanvery.

Turn on the Post Office fields

Scanvery has a Post Office fields setting made for postal staff. Once you turn it on, the parcel entry screen shows the fields needed for post office booking.

From then on, you can add parcels in two ways:

•       By scanning: point the camera at the parcel and let the app fill in the details.

•       By manual entry: if an address is handwritten badly or damaged, you can type it in yourself. Both kinds of entries are saved in the same list.

Once a parcel is scanned, every detail appears on screen so you can check it before saving.

Export everything in one go

This is where the app saves the most time. After you've scanned all the parcels, you don't have to enter them into the system again one by one. You can export them in a single file, filtered the way you need:

•       Today's parcels: everything you scanned today

•       Date-wise: parcels from a particular date or date range

•       Client-wise: all parcels for one bulk customer

The exported file comes out in the format the post office software accepts for import. You can upload it directly, without reformatting or copy-pasting.

Why it helps

•       About 30 seconds per parcel instead of 3–4 minutes. On a bulk booking day, that difference can save hours.

•       Fewer typing mistakes. Details are read straight from the parcel, so wrong PIN codes and misspelled names become less common.

•       Bulk customers are easier to handle. Client-wise export keeps each customer's parcels separate and ready to upload.

•       Nothing to learn. If you can use WhatsApp on your phone, you can use Scanvery.

Who is it for?

Scanvery suits booking counter staff, Postal Assistants, franchise outlets and Gramin Dak Sevaks in branch offices. It's most useful for anyone who handles bulk parcels from business customers regularly.

A small note

Scanvery is an independent app built to make parcel data entry faster. It is not an official India Post application. It prepares the parcel data, and the final booking is still done in your departmental software as usual.
