📮🇮🇳 172 YEARS OF INDIA POST — A JOURNEY WRITTEN IN LETTERS, LABOUR & LOVE 🇮🇳📮
1 October 1854 – 1 October 2026
Today, India Post completes 172 glorious years.
For millions, the Post Office may be a workplace or a public institution. But for those of us who have lived within its walls, walked its counters, carried its bags and served its people, India Post is an emotion. It is a part of life itself.
I have witnessed this great institution from close quarters—from the days of handwritten letters, postcards, money orders and manual ledgers to an era of digital technology, Speed Post, modern banking, insurance and technology-driven postal services.
Yet, amidst all the changes, one thing has remained unchanged—the human face of the Postman and the spirit of service.
A postal worker does not merely deliver a letter. He delivers someone's waiting, someone's happiness, someone's hope and sometimes someone's tears. Behind every delivery lies a story; behind every postal worker lies a silent commitment to the nation.
On this Foundation Day, I fondly remember the countless colleagues—serving and retired—who devoted the most precious years of their lives to keeping this vast network of India connected. Their dedication, struggles, friendships, comradeship and sacrifices constitute an inseparable chapter of the glorious history of India Post.
🌹 I salute every postal employee who has carried the message of India from village to village, town to town and heart to heart.
As India Post enters its 173rd year, may this historic institution continue to combine the trust of its glorious past with the technology of its future, while preserving the human touch that has made it unique.
📮 From the first post to the digital post…
