Summary of Duties of Mail Overseer
General Role
- Subordinate to Sub Divisional Head
- Conducts inspections and assists in fraud investigations
- Accompanies Sub Divisional Head on tours
Mail Duties
- Posts test letters/cards to check punctual clearance
- Maintains beat lists, route maps, and letterbox statements
- Verifies articles in deposit and delivery remarks
Savings Bank Duties
- Handles SB-28 and SB-26 receipts
- Verifies passbooks, depositor signatures, and balances
- Reports discrepancies and prevents frauds
Remittance Duties
- Verifies cash, stamp balances, and MO accounts
- Checks reasons for non-payment and VP/insured articles
Accounts & Journals
- Maintains BO Account (Pa-6) and BO Journal (Pa-5)
- Verifies receipts, payments, liabilities, and remittances
Insurance Duties
- Checks RPLI receipts, journals, and schedules
- Ensures proper crediting and fee collection
Reports & Records
- Maintains weekly diary and monthly MO reports
- Submits visit reports and passbook verification extracts
Extraordinary Circumstances
- Acts during theft, fire, floods, and service disruptions
- Performs GDS duties and trains new staff
Miscellaneous
- Verifies BO records, stock registers, and SS books
- Assists in settlement of accounts and minus balance checks
